Do these certificates actually help people get jobs or internships, or are they mostly just for show?
For this certificate, Google answers the job half itself: it is built to help you use AI in the job you have or want, not to qualify you for a job building AI. Its own FAQ asks the question and answers it:
"Does the Google AI Professional Certificate prepare me for a job in AI?" ... "This certificate prepares you to use AI at work"

What you earn. A course certificate: "After you complete all eight courses, you’ll earn a certificate from Google to share with your network and potential employers."
What Google claims about employers, in its own words. "Earn an employer-recognized certificate from Google", and "The curriculum was built by mapping AI capabilities to the skills the job market demands, and validated by employers." These describe how Google built the course. They are not a count of hires.
The outcome figure Google does publish, and its limits. Google's certificates page says:
"of certificate graduates report a positive career outcome (e.g., new job, promotion, or raise) within six months of completion."
The figure printed with it is "70%+", and the footnote reads "Based on program graduate survey, United States 2025." The same page's FAQ gives a different number under the same footnote: "75 percent of program graduates report an improvement in their career within six months of certificate completion". Both lines speak of "Google Career Certificates" in general. Neither page we read says whether graduates of the AI Professional Certificate are in that survey, and the AI certificate's own page, as we read it, shows no outcome figure for that certificate. Not found on either page reviewed on 5 October 2026: any figure for internships.
The employer network, scoped. Google writes that its Employer Consortium of "over 150 U.S. companies" is "committed to considering Google Career Certificate graduates for entry-level jobs", and that you "Complete a Google Career Certificate to get exclusive access to CareerCircle". Neither page states whether the AI Professional Certificate gives that access.
Your second question, projects. The certificate is built around them: "You’ll complete more than 20 hands-on activities and create workplace-ready projects." Those projects, not the certificate line, are what you can show in an interview.
The cost, dated. "In the U.S. and Canada, the subscription cost is $49 per month." (as shown in the United States on 5 October 2026).
What you can do.
- Match it to the job. If you want to build or train models, Google's own FAQ points this certificate elsewhere; look at programs that teach model building instead.
- Ask before paying: "Do graduates of the Google AI Professional Certificate get CareerCircle and Employer Consortium access?" Put it to Google or Coursera in writing.
- Count postings yourself. Search ten postings for your target role and check whether any names this certificate.
- Keep the projects. Put the 20+ activities in a portfolio you can show.
