Can You Register? Age, ID, Prerequisites and Online Proctoring for Entry-Level AI Exams

You can register only if you meet the provider's age, account and identity rules. A page saying there are no mandatory courses does not waive those checks, and Claude certification also requires a partner-company email, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026.

The registration checks that matter

This comparison evaluates 3 entry-level AI exams as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026: AWS Certified AI Practitioner, Google Cloud Generative AI Leader, and Claude Certified Associate Foundations. None of the 3 requires a prior course to register, yet each enforces distinct age, account, and identity gates before admission.

Every row in the comparison table below is as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026.

ExamAge and registration gatePreparation prerequisiteDeliveryPrice state and basis
AWS Certified AI PractitionerAt least 13 when scheduling; ages 13 to 17 require the parent/guardian consent processNo specific prerequisites; recommended experience is separatePearson VUE test center or online; AWS's teen accompaniment steps describe test-center admissionPriced: 100 USD per attempt; applicable taxes may apply
Google Cloud Generative AI LeaderAt least 18; first-time candidate uses CM Connect; legal name must match IDNo prerequisites, per the exam pageOnline or onsite through PearsonPriced: $99 registration fee plus tax where applicable
Claude Certified Associate FoundationsAt least 18; recognized company-domain email at a Claude Partner Network organizationNo mandatory prerequisites or required courses; no software-development/API experience neededOnline-proctored or Pearson test centerPriced: $99 USD listed exam fee

As shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, AWS Certified AI Practitioner is a foundational exam with a 90-minute duration and 65 questions; Google Cloud Generative AI Leader lists a 90-minute exam; and the Claude Certified Associate Foundations exam guide lists exam code CCAO-F and a 120-minute time limit.

Age, consent and identity

Age thresholds and identity verification separate teen-accessible testing from adult-only registration across these programs. As shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, AWS permits candidates ages 13 to 17 to test with parent or legal-guardian consent, while Google Cloud and Anthropic require candidates to be at least 18.

For AWS teen registration, the parent or guardian creates the certification account in the teenager's name and opens the required customer-service case. A ticket filed by the teenager must be replaced by a properly completed parent/guardian ticket, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026.

AWS requires both the teenager and accompanying parent or guardian to complete a new consent form and process for every exam. About five to seven business days after receipt, AWS either requests more information or confirms approval; scheduling assistance follows approval, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. That interval does not guarantee approval.

For AWS teen test-center admission as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, the teenager presents one photo ID; a school ID is acceptable. The named guardian accompanies them with matching valid government-issued ID and a consent-form copy, signs beside the candidate in the log, and leaves after admission. These rules apply to teen test-center admission only.

First-time Google Cloud candidates create a CM Connect account, choose the exam, delivery method and language, agree to policies, select an appointment and confirm payment. The legal first and last name must match the government-issued photo ID; Pearson scheduling requires Romanized characters in that field. For a Google test-center exam, arrive at least 15 minutes early with two forms of ID, including a government-issued photo ID from the accepted list, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026.

Anthropic requires candidates to be at least 18 for a Claude Certification exam as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, and age is checked against government-issued ID for both online and test-center delivery. Anthropic's exam policy says that, if requested by Anthropic or an exam proctor, candidates must present valid, unexpired government-issued ID matching the exam-registration name, and the certification FAQ independently states that ID is required at check-in. Anthropic's FAQ also requires the Pearson profile name to match the government-issued ID exactly.

Prerequisites are different from permission to book

Zero mandatory course prerequisites does not mean open registration for every individual. Across the comparison set, 2 compared vendors expressly require candidates to be age 18 or older as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, and Anthropic additionally restricts certification booking to people at Claude Partner Network organizations.

Each provider separates academic or technical preparation from administrative eligibility. AWS says all its certifications may be earned without completing specific prerequisites, while separately recommending knowledge and experience aligned with the certification as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. For AI Practitioner specifically, AWS describes the ideal candidate as familiar with AI/ML technologies on AWS and using, but not necessarily building, AI/ML solutions. That profile guides study planning, not booking permission, and it does not waive AWS age, identity, account, or conduct rules.

The Google Cloud Generative AI Leader page states no prerequisites and describes any job role, with or without hands-on technical experience, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. Google's exam terms still require age 18 or older; its registration instructions separately require the CM Connect legal name to match government-issued photo ID.

The Claude Certified Associate Foundations exam guide also states that there are no mandatory prerequisites or required courses, and that no software-development or API experience is needed, presenting its experience profile as recommended rather than required as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. However, Anthropic says certification is available to people at Claude Partner Network organizations, and registration requires a partner email on a recognized company domain as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026; personal email addresses do not work. Candidates register and pay on the certification page, receive a Pearson link by email, and then schedule an online-proctored appointment or Pearson test center.

What online proctoring requires

For a Google Cloud online exam, run the system test and download OnVUE at least 24 hours before the appointment, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. Failure to prepare, hardware malfunction or inadequate internet may lead to suspension or cancellation of the registration and forfeiture of fees.

Under AWS testing rules as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, online proctoring uses the candidate's own computer in a private space, with remote monitoring through screen sharing and webcam, and communication with the proctor is required. When a candidate chooses a testing center instead, the center supplies the required computer and on-site staff handle check-in.

Google Cloud sets specific preparation and room conditions for remote delivery as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026:

  • Run the system test and download OnVUE at least 24 hours before an online exam; the candidate is responsible for system requirements and a suitable internet connection.
  • Google's online setup rules call for a quiet, well-lit room, a room scan, no other people in the testing area, a clear desk, disconnected external monitors, and closed applications.
  • Food, drink, and headphones or earbuds are not permitted during a Google online exam.
  • Google says no breaks are allowed in an online exam, and an unapproved break cancels the Google session and causes rejection of the result; medical accommodations must be requested before scheduling, may take two to four weeks to arrange, and approved breaks must remain in camera/proctor view according to medical necessity.

Anthropic's online setup page says to run the system test on the computer and network you plan to use for the exam and review the full technology requirements as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. Passing the system test is not a guarantee that the actual exam will work. If required network domains cannot be allowed, blocking applications cannot be shut down, or problems persist, Anthropic recommends either a personal computer on a personal network or a Pearson test center, where equipment is supplied and the online setup instructions do not apply. Anthropic states that its exams are closed book: notes, documentation, translation tools, and AI assistants are not permitted, and browser translation tools are not permitted under Pearson's proctoring platform as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026.

Hidden costs and failure points

Google's online exam launch window runs from 10 minutes before to 20 minutes after the appointment, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. Outside that window, the session is canceled and the fee forfeited. Name and technical checks carry separate consequences, described below for the provider concerned.

These provider rules can affect admission or the exam fee, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026:

  • Google Cloud name mismatch: The legal first and last name in a Google CM Connect account must match the government-issued photo ID; Google says a mismatch prevents testing and forfeits the exam fee.
  • Anthropic name mismatch: Anthropic's FAQ requires the Pearson profile name to match the government-issued ID exactly. An unreported mismatch at the exam means Pearson refuses testing and the fee is forfeited; a correction request after denied entry or a no-show cannot reverse the forfeiture, and rescheduling requires payment.
  • Launch-window and onsite timing rules: Outside Google's online launch window, automatic cancellation and fee forfeiture mean registering and paying again. Its test-center arrival and ID requirements are separate and described above.

Questions before you book

For AWS candidates ages 13 to 17, consent must be arranged before booking. As shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, AWS says it responds about 5 to 7 business days after receiving the form, either requesting more information or confirming approval. That interval does not guarantee approval.

Can a teenager register?

AWS permits candidates ages 13 to 17 with parent or legal-guardian consent, with a minimum age of 13 when scheduling, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. The guardian handles the account and case, and both sign a new consent form for every exam. The teen test-center steps above apply to that delivery mode. Google Cloud and Anthropic require candidates to be at least 18.

Does no prerequisite mean anyone can book?

No. As shown in the United States on 15 October 2026, having no mandatory prior course does not waive registration rules. AWS requires candidates to be at least 13 when scheduling, with parent or guardian consent for ages 13 to 17. Google Cloud and Anthropic require age 18 or older. Anthropic also requires a recognized partner-company email.

Do I need a partner-company account for Claude certification?

Yes. Anthropic requires an email on a recognized company domain at a Claude Partner Network organization, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. Personal email addresses do not work. Candidates register and pay on the certification page, then receive a Pearson scheduling link by email.

What if my ID and profile names differ?

Google says a mismatch between the CM Connect legal name and government-issued photo ID prevents testing and forfeits the fee, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. Anthropic says an exam-day mismatch not reported in advance leads to refused testing and forfeiture; correcting it after denied entry or a no-show cannot reverse that forfeiture, and rescheduling requires payment.

Can I use a test center instead of my own computer?

Yes. All 3 compared exams offer Pearson test-center or onsite delivery, as shown in the United States on 15 October 2026. AWS says the center supplies the computer and staff handle check-in. Anthropic also says equipment is provided at a Pearson test center and its online setup instructions do not apply there.
