  • Skip it if you need an assessment of model tuning or deploying AI/ML pipelines: the exam guide excludes both. · Source
  • Skip it if your goal is to demonstrate implementation of security, compliance, or governance controls; the exam covers concepts but excludes those implementation tasks. · Source

Compare the objectives with your actual work

NVIDIA NCA-GENL focuses on foundational concepts for developing, integrating, and maintaining generative AI applications using NVIDIA solutions. Its listed topics include Python libraries for large language models, software development, experimentation, and LLM integration and deployment. We would consider it when those technical topics are relevant to your role, while recognizing that an entry-level exam is not a substitute for showing what you can build.

AWS AI Practitioner focuses on foundational AI knowledge and practical business applications in an AWS setting. Its guide describes a candidate who uses but does not necessarily build AI and machine learning solutions. The syllabus covers AI and machine learning fundamentals, generative AI, foundation-model applications, responsible AI, and security, compliance, and governance. It is the more directly aligned option when your immediate goal is to discuss suitable AWS AI technologies and their responsible use.

Distinguish coverage from hands-on proof

AWS explicitly excludes coding models, implementing feature engineering, tuning models, and building or deploying AI pipelines. NVIDIA includes several related technical areas in its topic list. That is a meaningful difference in syllabus coverage, not evidence that the NVIDIA assessment requires a production project. If employers or clients need implementation evidence, plan a separate way to demonstrate that work rather than relying on either certification title alone.

Before choosing, mark the objectives you already understand and those you would need to study. NVIDIA lists basic understanding of generative AI and LLMs as a prerequisite. AWS recommends familiarity with its core services, shared responsibility model, access management, and service pricing. Vendor familiarity and your existing knowledge matter more to a preparation plan than the word associate or practitioner in the title.

Budget for the exam and future maintenance separately

US exam fees are USD 125 for NVIDIA and USD 100 for AWS. NVIDIA lists a one-hour exam; AWS lists 90 minutes. Confirm final booking charges before paying. These durations describe the assessments, not learning time. Neither headline fee establishes a total budget that includes optional training or additional attempts.

NVIDIA states two-year validity, with recertification by retaking the exam. AWS states three-year validity and allows recertification through its latest exam or by earning AWS Certified Machine Learning Engineer - Associate before expiry. Consider whether maintaining the credential fits your expected work, not just whether the first exam is convenient.

Which to choose if…
