Start with the work context, not the price difference

AWS Certified AI Practitioner and Google Cloud Generative AI Leader address different vendor contexts. We would start with the systems and decisions you encounter at work. AWS is the more directly aligned choice when you need to discuss AI and machine learning in an AWS setting. Google's syllabus is more directly aligned when your decisions concern generative AI, Google Cloud offerings, model output, and business strategy. Neither alignment makes one exam universally better.

AWS spans AI and machine learning fundamentals, generative AI, foundation-model applications, responsible AI, and security, compliance, and governance. Google's listed areas are generative AI fundamentals, its cloud offerings, improving model output, and business strategy for generative AI solutions. Those topic lists give you a way to compare relevance before paying. Mark the areas you actually need to use or discuss, then check the detailed exam objectives for gaps.

Compare exam fees without inventing a total learning budget

US exam fees are USD 100 for AWS and USD 99 for Google, plus applicable taxes. Confirm the final booking terms before paying. We would not choose by headline price alone. Both exams list 90 minutes. That is assessment time, not a preparation schedule, so it does not tell you which qualification takes less study or costs less to prepare for.

Keep the exam fee separate from any training you choose to purchase. AWS requires the full registration fee for each attempt and a 14-day wait after a failed exam. Google's terms also require payment each time you take an exam. Neither headline fee is a guaranteed total budget for preparation and repeat attempts. Decide whether you need paid training after comparing the objectives with what you know, and check current booking terms before committing.

Match the credential to the evidence you need

These are certification exams, not two interchangeable training courses. AWS describes a candidate who uses but does not necessarily build AI and machine learning solutions. Its guide explicitly excludes coding models, tuning them, and deploying pipelines. Google accepts candidates in any job role with or without hands-on technical experience. We would therefore choose by syllabus fit rather than expect either title alone to demonstrate production engineering ability.

Both certifications list a three-year validity period. That gives you another decision to make beyond the first exam: whether maintaining the credential fits your ongoing work. Review the provider's renewal route before booking rather than assume lifetime validity. If implementation is your main objective, identify the practical work you need to demonstrate alongside any certification decision.
